Sports Premium

What is the Sports Premium?

The Government is providing funding of £150 million per annum to provide substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of funding

The PE and Sport Premium must be used to secure improvements in the following 5 key indicators:

  • Increasing engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
  • Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement.
  • Increasing the confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  • Broadening the range of sports and physical activity.
This Sports Premium document details how Nursery Hill Primary School has used this funding.

The Impact of Sports Premium

Physical Education is very important at Nursery Hill Primary School.  It promotes our children’s strength, control and co-ordination, improving their physical competence and confidence as well as their ability to perform a wide range of activities and games. Furthermore, the children learn about the importance of an active lifestyle and a healthy diet and the impact that these have on their physical and mental wellbeing.

During our PE sessions, the children are taught a wide variety of sporting techniques, as well as being taught the importance of teamwork and co-operation. The children’s confidence and self-esteem are nurtured, and they are encouraged to apply their sports skills to team situations.
